Simon Thompson is a Senior Adviser to Rothschild & Co and a Director of the British Geological Survey. After working for N. M. Rothschild and S. G. Warburg, Simon joined the Anglo American group, holding a number of senior positions including CEO of the Base Metals Division, Chairman of the Tarmac Group and Executive Director of Anglo American plc. Since leaving Anglo American, Simon has served as Chairman of 3i Group, Rio Tinto and Tullow Oil and as a Non-Executive Director of companies including Amec Foster Wheeler, AngloGold Ashanti, Newmont Mining Corporation and Sandvik. Simon has a MA (Geology) from University College, Oxford and a PhD (History) from King’s College London.
