Republic of Korea Country Lead

The Republic of Korea Country Lead has a fantastic opportunity to work with our team in the development and implementation of MPPs activities in the Republic of Korea and work with regional partners to fast-track clean industry projects. 

This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced climate champion to coordinate across governments, industry leaders, financiers, and technical experts, build bottom-up insights, and develop unique ground truth perspectives through deep engagement with the pipeline of clean industry projects.  

The Korea Country Lead’s responsibilities include: 

  1. Program Strategy & Delivery
    1. Work with the team in the execution of the program objectives, milestones, and outcomes including to develop strategic pathways for green iron and steel in Asia that balance decarbonisation, international competitiveness and domestic industrial growth opportunities for Korea.
    2. Identify lead markets for near-zero steel in Asia, and potential policy stimulation measures which could drive demand at management cost 
    3. Identify bottom-up trade opportunities that align with the political, socio-economic and environmental context in the region 
    4. Ensure delivery of flagship outputs (e.g., Strategic Value of Green Pathways paper, Green Markets paper, Market Development paper).
  2. Stakeholder Engagement & Consensus Building
    1. Support our team with high-level dialogues with steelmakers, OEMs, energy developers, financiers, buyers, and government ministries.
    2. Engage with national and international industry associations and Net Zero Partnership platforms to secure public and private buy-in for strategic clean industry supply pathways and lead markets  
    3. Build momentum for voluntary and policy-driven demand creation via an Asia Buyers Platform.
  3. Technical & Policy Insight
    1. Oversee techno-economic modelling of strategic iron and steel pathways (e.g.: domestic DRI/EAF, imports of green iron, nuclear vs renewable Hâ‚‚ routes).
    2. Identify lead markets and feasible policy mechanisms (demand subsidies, procurement commitments, export support).
    3. Stress-test real-economy FOAK project bankability and design enabling mechanisms (e.g., government-backed sales processes, book-and-claim).
  • Leadership & Representation
    1. Align activities with MPP’s Industrial Transition Accelerator and broader global campaigns (e.g., COP30/31)
    2. Support public facing regional engagement for the program (COP, CEM, G20, industry summits).
    3. Provide thought leadership and advocacy to elevate pioneering voices in industry and government.
Position Requirements:
 
  • Mid-career professional with extensive experience in a high-caliber environment (corporate C-Suite, government, or top-tier strategy consulting firm). 
  • Prior experience and solid working knowledge of the climate space, in particular of industry, transport & energy decarbonization. 
  • Strong preference for demonstrated familiarity and engagement with commercial projects in heavy industry or energy.
  • Proven stakeholder engagement experience: bringing together diverse stakeholders from private sector, policy, and finance to work on low-carbon energy solutions. 
  • Proactive and a self-starter, appetite for working autonomously in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Excellent project management and coordination skills – ability to support a complex programme delivered by a lean team, maintaining direction while adapting to changing circumstances. 
  • Strong analytical skills, experience in delivering techno-economic assessments and shaping strategies based on insights. 
  • Clear, high-quality communication: verbal, written, presentation. Ability to develop compelling narratives based on quantitative and qualitative data, and write concise, well-structured documents conveying clear but subtle messages. 
  • Collaborative team player, with strong interpersonal and relationship management skills. 
  • Ability to develop and nurture trusting relationships and partnerships with a range of stakeholders (inc. senior executives) from different organisational and geographical horizons. 
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills, excellent digital skills. 
  • Thrives in dynamic, entrepreneurial, intellectual environments & has flexibility in approach. 
  • Bachelor’s or equivalent degree. 

Additional Desirable Requirements: 
  • Strong understanding of Asian industrial, trade, and energy landscapes: Korean expertise highly desirable. 
  • Commercial deal experience 
  • Experience working in/with membership organisations, and the corporate, NGO and policy worlds. 
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Demonstrate cultural awareness and adaptability in communication strategies and messaging, respecting the diversity of the region.

Compensation: MPP compensates based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data
