Australia Country Associate

The Australia Country Associate has a fantastic opportunity to support the development and implementation of the MPPs activities in Australia and work with regional partners to fast-track clean industry projects. 

This is an exceptional opportunity for to support a team to coordinate across governments, industry leaders, financiers, and technical experts, build bottom-up insights, and develop unique ground truth perspectives through engagement with the pipeline of clean industry projects. It comes at an incredibly pivotal time of visibility and urgency with Australia’s potential hosting of COP31.  

The Australia Country Associate’s responsibilities include: 

  1. Program Delivery
    • Assist in the execution of program objectives, milestones, and outcomes, including developing strategic pathways for green iron and steel in Asia that balance decarbonisation, international competitiveness, and domestic industrial growth opportunities for China, Japan, and South Korea.
    • Support the identification of lead markets for near-zero steel in Asia and potential policy stimulation measures that could drive demand at management cost.
    • Contribute to identifying bottom-up trade opportunities that align with the political, socio-economic, and environmental context in the region.
    • Assist in the delivery of flagship outputs (e.g., Strategic Value of Green Pathways paper, Green Markets paper, Market Development paper).
 
  1. Stakeholder Engagement & Consensus Building
    • Support high-level dialogues with steelmakers, OEMs, energy developers, financiers, buyers, and government ministries.
    • Engage with national and international industry associations and Net Zero Partnership platforms to secure public and private buy-in for strategic clean industry supply pathways and lead markets.
    • Contribute to building momentum for voluntary and policy-driven demand creation via an Asia Buyers Platform.
 
  1. Technical & Policy Insight
    • Assist in overseeing techno-economic modelling of strategic iron and steel pathways (e.g., domestic DRI/EAF, imports of green iron, nuclear vs renewable Hâ‚‚ routes).
    • Support the identification of lead markets and feasible policy mechanisms (demand subsidies, procurement commitments, export support).
    • Contribute to stress-testing real-economy FOAK project bankability and designing enabling mechanisms (e.g., government-backed sales processes, book-and-claim).
Position Requirements:  

  • At least 2 years of experience with a consulting firm. 
  • Good knowledge of the climate space, in particular energy, industry, and/or transport decarbonisation.
  • Proactive and self-starter, appetite for working autonomously in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Excellent project management and coordination skills – ability to support a complex programme delivered by a lean team, maintaining direction while adapting to changing circumstances.
  • Clear, high-quality communication: verbal, written, presentation. Ability to develop compelling narratives based on quantitative and qualitative data, and write concise, well-structured documents conveying clear but subtle messages.
  • Well-developed analytical skills, experience in assisting with techno-economic assessments and shaping strategies based on insights. 
  • Experience in data analysis, and other core consulting skills preferably within the environmental or sustainability sector; and/or from a top tier consulting firm.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Experience interacting with senior executives.
  • Collaborative team player, with strong interpersonal and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to develop and nurture trusting relationships and partnerships with a range of stakeholders (inc. senior executives) from different organisational and geographical horizons.
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills, excellent digital skills. 
  • Flexibility in approach and comfortable in an entrepreneurial/start-up environment.
  • Proficiency in data management tools and software
  • Bachelor’s or equivalent degree. 
 



Location: Australia preferred

Reports to: Director, APAC and Australia Country Lead

Term: Full-time, 18-month contract

Compensation: MPP compensates based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data
